The Jeju Air Flight 7C2216 disaster, which occurred at Muan International Airport in Jeollanam-do on December 29, 2024, was one of the most devastating aviation disasters in Korean history, resulting in the deaths of 179 people, the highest number of fatalities ever recorded in a domestic civil aviation accident in Korea.

In preparation for the expiration of the two-year limitation period under the Montreal Convention, the bereaved families selected One Law Partners, LLC (Managing Partners Ki-Won Yoon and Yoo-Jung Lee) as their legal counsel and have formally begun preparations to file damages claims against the Republic of Korea, Korea Airports Corporation, Jeju Air, and The Boeing Company.

In April, the Families’ Association invited proposals from approximately 30 law firms across Korea as part of a transparent and competitive selection process. Following document evaluations and presentation reviews, One Law Partners, LLC was selected through a vote of the bereaved families. To date, the families of 73 out of the 179 victims have retained the firm to represent them in the litigation.

Before commencing the main action, One Law Partners, LLC filed an Application for Preservation of Evidence with the Mokpo Branch of the Gwangju District Court on August 6, 2026. Searches for human remains and personal belongings continue at the accident site, while recovered personal effects are being stored separately. In addition, CCTV footage from Muan International Airport reportedly contains video evidence suggesting that the Aviation and Railway Accident Investigation Board (ARAIB) may not have properly preserved the accident scene. The firm explained that, due to the passage of time, there is a substantial risk that such evidence could be lost, damaged, or destroyed, making immediate preservation necessary.

One Law Partners, LLC previously represented families of victims of the Sewol Ferry Disaster in damages litigation against the Korean government and is currently representing the families of 28 victims of the Itaewon Disaster in ongoing damages proceedings. Drawing upon its experience in large-scale disaster and mass-casualty litigation, the firm intends to pursue both a full investigation into the causes of the accident and fair compensation for the bereaved families in connection with the December 29 Muan Airport Jeju Air disaster.
