1. Case Overview

A, an Air Force non-commissioned officer, died from acute myocardial infarction while participating in a military maneuver training exercise.

The Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs and the Ministry of National Defense denied a causal relationship between military service and the death on the grounds that A had pre-existing medical conditions, including hypertension and hyperlipidemia.

Following the judgment, neither government agency pursued a further appeal, and the family’s status as beneficiaries entitled to veterans’ compensation and line-of-duty survivors’ pension benefits became final.
