Attorneys Joong-young Choi and Kristen Hwang of One Law Partners, LLC attended the 2025 R&D Specialized Institutions Sanctions Network hosted by the Korea Institute of Marine Science & Technology Promotion (KIMST).
A total of 44 representatives from 16 specialized research management institutions participated in the network, which was established to share increasingly complex cases involving sanctions in national R&D projects and to strengthen legal response capabilities.
In particular, discussions focused on intellectual property disputes related to rapidly emerging AI technologies and measures to ensure the effectiveness of sanctions.
At the event, Attorneys Joong-young Choi and Eun-jung Hwang of One Law Partners, LLC were invited to deliver presentations and address practical issues.
Attorney Joong-young Choi analyzed recent case law concerning patent and copyright issues surrounding AI technologies and explained key considerations for practitioners.
Attorney Kristen Hwang delivered a presentation on “Practical Issues in National R&D Projects.”
In addition, Attorney Hwang explained the legal distinctions between administrative sanctions and contractual sanctions, and presented solutions regarding practical issues such as the effectiveness of recovering R&D clawback amounts and the deferral of settlement payment obligations.
